Spring/Summer 2010: Gateway to Discovery

North Coast Land Conservancy's Gateway to Discovery field programs provide an entry point to Oregon's coastal riches -- birding, geology, and a salmon rich watershed. These programs serve the community and its visitors by extending beyond the walls of any building. Come walk in an ancient spruce forest, learn about local birding in a restored estuarine lake, watch for bald eagles while the tides come and go, learn about the region's natural, cultural, and historical resources.

Tansy Ragwort Removal at Neacoxie Estates

Saturday July 24, 9:00 A.M. - 12 noon, starting at the Surf Pines gatehouse

Tansy ragwort is an invasive, toxic biennial weed from Europe most often found in pastures and along roads and trails. During the summer when its yellow flowers are blooming, tansy ragwort is an easy target. Please join us for a stimulating morning of tansy annihilation in the Surf Pines neighborhood north of Gearhart. You can meet at 9am and help for an hour before attending the Pollinators at Work educational program in the same location, or push on with invasives removal through 12 noon.

One of the most beautiful yet notorious invasive plants along the North Coast, purple loosestrife aggressively outcompetes and replaces native grasses, sedges, and other flowering plants that provide a higher quality food for wildlife. 4th Saturdays Wildlife Habitat Enhancement

Do you love being out in nature? Would you like to help with wildlife habitat enhancement? NCLC is excited to announce our new volunteer stewardship program called 4th Saturdays. On the 4th Saturday of most months we will be implementing a variety of habitat enhancement activites across the breadth of our properties.
